For local help potty training a puppy or dog in Broward county, south Florida, you’ll find guidance through Love Wags A Tail’s housetraining information.
When a dog is pulling on the leash, it is quite a tough thing to ignore. Except when the distance of the leash, or in this case the Flexi Lead, is less than the space the dog can run in before actually yanking you off your feet.
I remember over 15 years ago, I used to come home for lunch to let my beautiful Dobermann, Baby, out. I’d been renting a room from someone. My Dobie was a couch potato when I was away, so slept very nicely in the room when I was at work, especially being I came home in the middle of my work day to let her have some exercise on leash.
There was no fence in the yard, so I used a Flexi Lead to give her more freedom. She was brilliant! She knew it was potty training time for dogs! Actually, the training part of potty training for dogs had been completed and it was more like pawty time! She knew how to take best advantage of the daily flexible leash routine. And in the front yard, she ran back and forth on the Flexi Lead until she had a bowel movement because she was so very well housetrained. She worked with me on the schedule I maintained consistently, and was very intuitive about her body and its functions.
Two things about this. Flexi Leads are not always your friend. I’ll tell another story or several about that in future posts. But if you respect them, pay attention to the goings-on 100% of the time you are with your dog when he is on a Flexi Lead. These contraptions can be of help to the dog owner on special occasions, such as housetraining your puppy or dog. They can also hurt you and your dog. severely if you aren’t paying attention that 100% of the time.
The alternative is a long line. They get tangled and have their own issues. Focus on your dog no matter what leash you’re using. No cell phone. No texting. Just be with your dog. And if you’re housebreaking your puppy and have no fenced-in yard, the Flexi Lead or a long line can be of help.
