I’m doing a board-and-train with a little Podenco from Spain. She’s quite a smarty pants, and very willing to work for her meals. Here she is pulling a sock off my foot as one of her dog training tasks during her board and train in South Florida.
Her name is Izzy and she’s a very bright dog and we encourage her to use her smarts 24/7. We challenge her to complete tasks we train her to do, and when we see a natural talent emerge, we encourage it to grow.
Izzy is learning to become a Canine Good Citizen. And because she’s learned to retrieve to an open hand, (we also call that fetch), open doors, open and shut lower cupboards, jump on a lap, and do all the basics other dogs learn such as sit, down, and stay during her board-and-train, Izzy will work out well as an assistance companion to her new owner.
