Dogs learning to play and tug need to build their confidence. One way to do this is to let them win often. A dog that is already reinforced by tugging, such as the Dobie in the last segment of this video, can be rewarded with tugging for behaving appropriately. Treats aren’t the only way to reward a good dog!
Playing with your dog is imperative to his well being, and for bonding between the two of you. Play games with or without toys. Play chase, hide and seek, fetch, tug. There are lots and lots of games to play. Play with your dog everyday to enhance your relationship and his quality of life.
Trixie was a little foster dog of mine I rescued from a shelter and later, she was placed in wonderful home. She had a ferocious play drive and loved adventure. What fun we had playing together!
