Dogs deserve to play. Every puppy I board and train has a different interest. Dogs and puppies both like to do such activities as dig, fetch, chase and be chased, bury, tug, hunt. cache, hoard, bark, chew, shred, search to find, and combinations of all of these and more.
One of the favorite activities of one of my own dogs is to squeak a toy. The squeaking sound emulates the sound of prey when it’s been caught. I don’t know if that’s what’s turning him on because he oftentimes watches the rabbits dart through our yard while my other dog does the chasing. Then he’s more apt to chase her. He has a lot of interests, but so do most dogs.
When we find our dogs’ talents, it’s a great thing to allow them the joy of expressing that talent. Think on this. If you loved to dance, you’d want to express that love by dancing. If you were reprimanded whenever you danced, you’d be a sad person. Dogs have the same feelings. Pups can’t figure out why their owner is yelling at them when they’re digging holes because digging is the love of their lives. But you can work with that behavior, so both you and your dogs are happy. There is most always a way to compromise.
This is my dog demonstrating one of his joys. If the noise bothered me, I’d get a less loud squeaky toy, or a pair of ear plugs. But he is enjoying himself and doing nothing else but exercising his jaw and showing off his toy. I love that he’s happy.

Enjoy the talents your dogs express. Find compromise. Be creative.
