We at Love Wags A Tail love autumn almost as much as we love to board and train dogs and puppies. Pumpkins are so much a part of autumn, and one of the local areas for locations where pumpkins are plentiful is the Flamingo Road Nursery at 1655 S Flamingo Road, Davie, FL 33325. We use pumpkins for decorations during October and November and our dogs in training are usually curious about the huge gourds.
One of our September board-and-train pups was an Australian Shepherd named Carbon, who has a lot of talent and grew by leaps and bounds under our humane and motivating dog training methods. Before Carbon’s owners signed him up, we talked to them to find out what they needed help with, agreed on realistic expectations, then planned a perfect three-week dog-training package just for Carbon, the Aussie.
Having fun with our board-and-train dogs is always part of the package. We play games with them, as much as they play games with our own personal dogs. As a matter of fact, we make motivational dog training itself a game, and we make it fun. Dog and puppy training is fun for us and for the dogs.
Carbon demonstrates a bit of how we put together behaviors, called chaining behaviors, to make one behavior. In this lesson, we were working against the backdrop of our just purchased pumpkins to create a sit, stay, and catch. Let’s not forget that we also puppy trained Carbon to move to the spot we needed him to be in so that the pumpkin patch backdrop was in the video. All of those behaviors were first installed, then we practiced catching a perfectly sized dog training reward.
