Maltese (Malteses?) are small but mighty. They are sassy little darlings. When they get comfortable in board-and-train, which is almost immediately, they always become great conversationalists. Put a talkative French bulldog together with a Maltese and you’d have quite a conversation. In the meantime, I enjoy the conversations I get to have with them.
Besides their talkative personalities, they are also creative. This is Zoe who was the first Maltese I trained. During one of our sit stay lessons, she suddenly emulated my distraction spin in front of her. What a hoot! And she told me so in the process.
My most recent Maltese board-and-train was a little boy named Rylo who’s also part Shih-Poo. He is not lacking the Maltese sass and spunk and doesn’t miss a beat.
Rylo wasn’t sure about the squirrel he met, and that squirrel showed him no respect, so we moved on and Rylo showed off his perfected method of doing the zoomies. I thought that would have got his bowels moving for the poopy he owed me, but that was my dream, not Rylo’s.
Rylo showed off how board-and-train kids enjoy letting off steam, playing, and having fun while here doing lessons and getting schooled. Day-to-day manners are always top priority and so are the lessons, but everyone needs to enjoy themselves and let off steam, as well.
